Emergent Projects
As an emerging organization geared towards different approaches to education and co-learning, we engaged most of our time of emergence building the institute from below in a bottom-up strategy. We, developed conceptual, methodological, and ethical frameworks for our research and projects. We also presented our works and findings and works at community functions and scholarly conferences and solicited invaluable feedback which helped us revise and refine our frameworks.
We have offered some of the knowledges we produced in ways that affirm communities and invites them to be the change they want to see. These affirming and invitational pieces are produced in accessible formats, including short videos like The Importance of Taking Action (on gender-based violence) and Siinqee Sisterhood (meaning making); songs affirming cultural heritage like Women of Yabus, and Safuu (both audio tracks); community stories like Songs of Exile; and video documentaries like Dances of Exile. And there is more coming. Click on the Knowledge Mobilization tab and enjoy.
This year, we also opened our doors to Master of Social Work (MSW) practicum students from Renison University College, University of Waterloo, as our first pilot training project. We developed participatory learning goals and objectives, identified issues for mutually beneficial projects, and put together a resource kit. As part of our commitment to mobilize siinqee-informed transformative knowledge, we developed a monthly Siinqee Learning Series which we are all enjoying as a community of co-learners.
